Matazi Weathers

Matazi Weathers is a temporal and spatial film farmer, curator, educator, creative producer and filmmaker from Los Angeles. They constellate image-making networks across the African diaspora as an experiential researcher, are the Film Curator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Narrative Features Programmer at BlackStar Film Festival, and founder of Black Bloom, a Black farmers’ cooperative in Los Angeles.

As a filmmaker and producer, they make vulnerable stories rooted in land and spirit that foreground sensorial feeling and biomythography as orientations toward revolutionary transformation. Their work has played across galleries and screening venues in Los Angeles and their short films have played at festivals around the world. They learned filmmaking at the Echo Park Film Center, where they later taught film and have continued to teach adaptive forms of filmmaking to generations of Los Angeles youth and adults across LA at schools, organizations, and workshops. They designed and teach LACMA’s Aspect Ratio film education program, an ongoing filmmaking lab for adults of all ages in South Central LA to learn to cinematically channel stories of land and life.
